The north beach used to be exciting, but is now disappointing. They removed the bridge and most of the trees near the beach, the Life Guard stand is gone, and the rates have increased (still free to veterans). We used to be able to see lots of gay couples walking to the area, like guys with crocheted thongs with their balls hanging out, but not any more. Now you have some old women with nothing better to do than be the “prude patrol.” They reported my friend to the Park Ranger for wearing a Speedo! While he is buff and nicely endowed, it wasn’t lewd and nothing was hanging out.
I LOVE IT!!!
always have a great time whenever I visit Ft Desoto park. love the gay section. love laying in the sand watching the hard men walk by showing thier stuff
Nice beach
Pretty = YES. Gay = Don't think so. There were a LOT of families there and kids. There is a bridge between the picnic area and the beach that I "assume" is "the rainbow bridge"......there is no other bridge as I walked the entire beach and around the "island". If you are looking to go meet and hang out with other gay men you might prefer another beach.
not worth the effort
I've been to this park twice. I parked in the last section as posted and still have not come upon the famous "rainbow bridge". Another annoyance is the huge Mosquitos attacking the beach goers. .....simply not worth all that effort.
